CookClean manufactures efficient cookstoves to displace the resources wasteful and unhealthy traditional stoves which kill 13,400 people and subject 21 million to Household Air Pollution yearly in Ghana.This method of cooking has a devastating effect on Ghanaian forests which have been reduced to 25% of its original size. Clean Cook Stoves in Sub-Saharan Africa by ClimateCare Limited

Domestic biodigesters provide a way for individual households with livestock to reduce their dependence on polluting firewood and expensive fossil fuels for cooking and lighting. The project also provides additional benefits with the bio-slurry providing a great means for fertilizing and improving local agricultural production.The domestic biodigester disseminated in Cambodia is a ‘Farmer’s Friend’, a fixed dome digester, which has a lifespan of over 20 years. The smallest and most popular digester on the market, it can treat the waste from 2-3 bovines or 4-6 pigs and costs around $500 excluding an investment subsidy of $150.The Cambodian National Biodigester Programme was originally set up in 2006 by the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and SNV Netherlands Development Organization. In the period March 2006 to December 2021&nbsp;nearly&nbsp;29,000 biodigesters&nbsp;were constructed through&nbsp;118 micro-enterprises&nbsp;in&nbsp;15 provinces. The programme was one of the first large-scale biogas projects certified to Gold Standard with support from HIVOS. Since 2017, MAFF uses money generated from the sale of carbon credits to continue running and expanding this programme.What makes the Programme unique?<ul><li>An important success factor is the special biogas loan that is made available through three nationally operating micro-finance institutions.&nbsp; Since 2010, over 70% of households have used a biogas loan to finance their biodigester. Loans are generally paid back within two years.</li><li>The Programme works with a market-based model and has the intention to develop the sector in such a way that it can run without direct involvement of the Programme. The private sector development arm of NBP is therefore establishing independent enterprises in rural areas and building the capacity of those enterprises on marketing and promotion, internal quality control and after sales services.</li></ul><h3 style="margin-left:0px;">Project impacts and benefits:</h3>Livelihood and health improvement:<ul><li>27,980&nbsp;biodigesters constructed from March 2006 to December 2020 /&nbsp;79,256&nbsp;direct beneficiaries</li><li>55.2%&nbsp;of constructed biodigesters still operational; i.e.&nbsp;15,820&nbsp;smoke-free kitchens&nbsp;(December 2020)</li><li>Biogas kitchen air pollution reduced with&nbsp;88%&nbsp;(Particulate Matter 2.5).</li><li>$143 USD saving&nbsp;in expenditures on cooking fuels per household per year</li></ul>Employment creation:<ul><li>118 private enterprises&nbsp;established of which 53 are active</li><li>810 trained&nbsp;masons</li><li>154 trained&nbsp;supervisors</li></ul>Environmental benefits:<ul><li>On average&nbsp;4.02&nbsp;tCO2&nbsp;reduced per digester&nbsp;in 2020</li><li>907,351 tCO2&nbsp;reduced between May 2009 and December 2020</li><li>293,300 tonnes of wood saved</li></ul><a href="https://marketplace.goldstandard.org/collections/projects/products/cambodia-national-biodigester-programme">Project description taken from Gold Standard website.</a>

Cambodia National Biodigester Programme

Hidrocañete owns the Nuevo Imperial hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 3.97 MW, designed to generate up to 33 GWh/year of clean energy. It is located at kilometer 12.5 of the Nuevo Imperial agricultural irrigation canal, which draws its water from the Cañete River (approximately 170 km south of Lima). The hydroelectric plant has been in commercial operation since April 2012, with an effective average power of 3.26 MW and an average generation of 26.53 MWh, displacing 18.652 tCO2e per year.The hydroelectric plant uses the waters of the Cañete River and in the low water season (May to October) it uses the waters of the 70 MMC Paucarcocha dam, which is regulated to keep the Cañete River above 14 m³/s. The canal where the Nuevo Imperial plant was built exclusively as an irrigation system. The priority of water use is for agriculture and the evacuation of energy produced through the Peruvian National Inter-Connected Electricity Grid (SEIN) at Barra Cantera 220 kV. The energy is sold directly to the Peruvian state. Wind turbines generate electricity using the power of the wind, reducing the amount of fossil fuels that we need to use to generate our power, and therefore reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that we release to our atmosphere. Project benefits: preserving natural resources; promoting renewable energy; reducing dependency on non-renewable resources; and helping spread green technology worldwide.Wigton Windfarm Limited also supports schools in the area as part of its social responsibility, including the adoption of the adjacent Rose Hill Primary and Infant School and plays an active role in supporting education through the building of a renewable energy resource center in 2010 where training courses are offered in renewable energy. Wigton Windfarm Limited has also embarked on a recent corporate social responsibility programme where scholarships and bursaries are given at tertiary institutions for students pursuing engineering and science in addition to providing laptops to needy students.The Wigton Windfarm Limited also supports community farming.
